Highcrest

Located in Wavell Heights, this project carefully balances contemporary living with the stewardship of a locally heritage-listed home. The design approach is measured and respectful — allowing the original dwelling to remain the primary architectural presence while introducing a refined addition to the rear.

Capitalising on expansive views toward the Brisbane skyline, the new work is oriented to the city outlook. Living spaces open outward to capture these long vistas, with generous glazing framing the view and drawing natural light deep into the interior.

The addition maintains a compact footprint and a lightweight material palette, ensuring it sits comfortably alongside the heritage structure. Subtle detailing and restrained forms allow the contemporary elements to complement rather than compete with the original fabric.

By stepping the built form toward the rear and maintaining a modest street presence, the design preserves the character of the existing home while delivering modern amenity. The result is a thoughtful integration of old and new — respectful, understated and oriented to both history and horizon.
